Democratic functioning
Twice a year, the twelve regional union groups of Quebec hold general assemblies, when maple syrup producers meet, learn about and discuss future actions. This is also an opportunity to nominate delegates who are to represent them at the Federation’s general assembly meeting.
During the annual general assembly held by the FPAQ, various resolutions originating in the various regions are brought to the table and debated upon. Each year, the Federation holds its general assembly in a different region.
Moreover, the Federation has created working committees to inform the Administrative Council on a number of issues:
- Committee for issues encountered by producers/processors;
- Organic maple syrup industry committee;
- Public lands committee;
- Quotas committee;
- Promotional committee;
- Finance committee.
Before coming into effect, all policy proposals voted upon by the producers are submitted to the Régie des marchés agricoles et alimentaires du Québec, which insures that they conform to the Loi sur la mise en marché. This process generally calls for a public hearing during which members are invited to express their opinions on the proposal.
