Stakeholders in the Quebec maple syrup industry
The Fédération des producteurs acéricoles du Quebec unites some 7,300 maple syrup producers in Quebec. Its mandate is to enhance common resources and create effective tools to assure the quality and shelf-life of maple products. Since February 28, 2002, the Fédération des producteurs acéricoles du Quebec has been the exclusive sales representative of maple farmers. It administers the Sales Agency, that receives and markets maple syrup sold in large containers of more than 5 litres. The goal of this agency is to assure effective and orderly marketing of maple syrup. Through its promotional activities, the Federation and Sales Agency contribute to publicizing Quebec maple products in Quebec and the world and increasing their consumption.
Other than the maple syrup producers represented by the Federation, there are also hundreds of companies involved in the purchase and processing of maple syrup in Quebec, and about forty of which are in involved in large-scale packaging and processing of maple syrup products every year.
Two well-detailed documents on the maple syrup industry have been produced by Quebec’s Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food and made available to the public:
